Pricing philosophy
Jira's per-seat pricing runs $7.91 to $14.54 per user per month on Standard and Premium. The 2026 addition of free guest access, up to 5 guests per paid seat, limited to a single space, closes a long-standing gap, and for a small agency it can cover a handful of client contacts at no extra cost.
Where it breaks for agencies
Client approvals in Jira mean configuring a custom workflow with an "Awaiting Approval" status and the right transition permissions. It's flexible, but it's DIY, there's no out-of-the-box "client approved this deliverable" moment, and nothing ties that status change to anything financial. For an agency, the work of turning "done and approved" into "billed" is still entirely manual.
What we otherwise really like about Jira
Jira's workflow engine is unmatched for complex, rules-driven processes, and Atlassian's Rovo AI plus the new Rovo MCP Server bring real AI and MCP access to the platform, more than several tools on this page can say. If your engineering team is already deep in the Atlassian ecosystem, Jira plus Confluence is hard to beat for internal delivery. Use it for the engineering work, and let Scopeyard handle the client-facing approval and billing loop Jira was never designed for.
